Safe Schools Week (October 16-22, 2011) is about raising awareness of the urgent need to keep our schools and communities free from violence.
MySpace & Facebook
You can also join the cause online by becoming a friend of Speak Up on MySpace, and also by joining the group "1-866-SPEAK-UP" on Facebook.
Press Coverage
You can also contact your local TV and radio stations and ask them to do a story about your participation in the Creative Expression Contest, or about any other event related to Safe Schools Week. Please let us know if you plan to do an event by sending an email to speakup@cpyv.org. We would love to post some pictures of your event on our websites!
Students - Always Remember to SPEAK UP!
Another important thing you can do is to speak up if someone you know makes a weapon-related threat, either by telling a trusted adult or calling 1-866-SPEAK-UP.
Additional Activities
There are other important ways to SPEAK UP during Safe Schools Week as well. For more ideas and suggestions for how to get the press involved, please download the Safe Schools Week Events and Activities Guide.
